Free-to-play AR adventure experience

Pikmin Bloom is a free-to-play augmented reality (AR) game that lets you have an adventure in the real world. This new engaging and addictive game is developed through the partnership of Nintendo and Niantic, the two tech pioneers behind the massive hit Pokemon GO.

For those looking for a new experience, Pikmin Bloom takes the genre for a spin, posing itself as a unique AR game like Ghostbusters World or Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs. With this Niantic offering, however, you can relax as your daily walks now feature bright and colorful creatures you can collect.

Grow your Pikmin collection

Pikmin Bloom takes a few notes from its so-called predecessor, Pokemon GO. Using the same game mechanics, you also walk around in the physical world to find Pikmin seeds in-game. You then hatch these seedlings by accomplishing a required number of steps, revealing a small yet brightly colored fantasy creature called a Pikmin. These small beings will help you accomplish quests and solve missions as each has unique abilities.

Unlike the previous Nintendo-Niantic release, however, this AR game has no fighting mechanics. This means that the creatures you collect will be used mostly for puzzle-solving instead of fighting other monsters from other players. True to its peaceful and relaxing nature, the Pikmin you gather also follow your character on-screen, represented in your device as a Mii–your customizable Nintendo avatar.

The game also demonstrates the progress of the developers in AR, as the Pikmin appear more naturally against the physical world that is its background. Additionally, there are pleasant effects players can enjoy both on-screen or through cameras. When you walk, it is shown in-game as your Pikmin walking behind you and leaving a trail of flowers–the same trail remains visible when other players follow you with their cameras.

Your relaxing AR game

With Pikmin Bloom, you get a new incentive for walking around with bright and colorful creatures. While it might turn off a lot of its players for the lack of fighting mechanics, it cozies up for people looking for a more relaxing experience. Its improved AR further blurs the line between the digital and the physical worlds, leading to a more immersive and engaging experience.
