Free and fun augmented reality game
Pikmin Bloom is a free augmented reality game that aims to make walking more fun and magical by introducing players to sentient plant creatures called Pikmin. This game, developed by the Pokemon GO developers Nintendo and Niantic, shares similarities with the earlier game but this one introduces a new universe as it gets you moving in the real world.
Pikmin Bloom is considered a calmer, more peaceful alternative to AR adventure games like Ingress Prime or Harry Potter: Wizards Unite especially since this game does not feature any fighting or battling mechanics.
Find and collect colorful creatures
For those unfamiliar, an augmented reality game is an interactive experience that combines computer-generated elements with a real-world environment. Pikmin Bloom creates a comfortingly engaging experience by using your actual surroundings as the setting for the game. In this app, you find Pikmin from flowers, hatch them, and have them follow you around. They also have unique abilities cued in by the color of the creatures.
Also, in this game, your character is represented on your device screen as a Mii, or the digital avatars used in most Nintendo consoles. As you collect more Pikmins, more of them follow you around on the screen and on the AR–making them visible to other players following you in-game. Additionally, these creatures following you leave a trail of flowers in your wake, which is also visible to other players.
While it combines the digital and the physical space in one experience, Pikmin Bloom is definitely not for everyone. If you have the urge to fight against other players, then this game is not for you. Pikmins do not fight against each other. However, they can help you solve puzzles along the way. Without this fighting mechanic, it makes the game feel like there isn’t much to do.
A fun way to get healthy
Pikmin Bloom does not make you collect creatures for fighting. Instead, it makes you wander, walk around, and collect Pikmins for their abilities that could help you solve fun and engaging puzzles scattered around. While this is not for competitive AR players looking to hold locations and fight others, this game is still a must-try for its efforts to make walking fun and more engaging.
